You won't believe it. This probably only happens in Japan.
In Tokyo near the Ikebukuro traing station, there is a bar/pub that has a stack of "hashi" (chopsticks) with names of their customers written on them.
In February 2007, this bar/pub eliminated disposable chopsticks from their stocks and started to sell nice plastic and colourful "hashi" for 280 yen (about $2.40 or GBP 1.20) and have their clients "keep" their chopsticks at the store for their next visit. T
his place has become very popular amongst the business men and women as they can accumulate points by coming to the bar/pub and using "my hashi" each time they visit. Currently they have 120 customers using this service and the staff say it's been great because it gives them the chance to remember their customer's names and provide them with personalised service.
Only in Japan would we have such a wonderful and unique service.
PS My father wrote a book on Chopsticks (he completed the book at age 94!) and
you can purchase it through his website: www.docwarner.com He has written several books but this one is the one I highly recommend.
